Sector Las Pailas is the easiest and most popular hike inside the national park, perfect for visitors of all ages and fitness levels. This 3 km loop trail takes about 2 hours to complete and offers a unique chance to explore Costa Rica’s tropical dry forest. Along the way, you'll encounter impressive volcanic rock formations and witness the raw power of the Earth through bubbling mud pits, steaming vents, and hot water pools—reminders of the park’s active volcanic heart. 

*Can be combined with the Oropendola Waterfall and/or Hot Springs. This would be a full day tour. 

The La Cangreja Waterfall hike is a rewarding intermediate to advanced trail that takes about 4 hours round trip. Winding through Costa Rica’s dry forest, the trail features steep inclines, declines, and scenic lookout points offering sweeping views of the landscape.  Arrive at the stunning La Cangreja Waterfall, a clear blue cascade tucked into the forest where you can swim, relax, and soak in the beauty. Often called a mini La Fortuna Waterfall, it’s a hidden gem that combines adventure, nature, and a refreshing dip in one unforgettable hike.

The Escondida Waterfall hike is a challenging trek similar to La Cangreja but at a higher altitude, offering a challenge and stunning views. The trail can be tricky to navigate, and sometimes closed due to rain or wind conditions making it best suited for experienced hikers. Those who make the journey are rewarded with a beautiful, secluded waterfall—an incredible spot to enjoy nature away from the crowds.
